It all started when I had just graduated from high school in Lund, Sweden. I shifted my career dream from becoming a comic artist to pursuing a career as a film director. I can’t pinpoint all the reasons that led me to make this decision, but one of the strongest motivations was the intense nature of filmmaking. I didn’t want to confine my life to drawings, spending it in front of sheets of paper, dreaming and conjuring up all my fantasies and excitement about life within the four walls of my study. While it’s said that the philosopher Immanuel Kant hardly ever left his city of Königsberg and still found ways to delve into the hidden secrets of life, I desired more. I craved real-life experiences, not just reflections of possible actions. To achieve this, it was essential for me to change the medium – to work with real people, visit actual locations, and, if only for the short duration of a shot, bring the cinematic world to life. These days, I spend my time in front of my computer, mainly confined to my study while editing my film. However, I know that there will soon be a phase when I grab the camera, collaborate with my beloved partners in crime, actors, and musicians, and experience the thrilling real-life action that makes all the hard work in the world of filmmaking worth the chore!
Amusia was my first student film, it really is the work of an absolute amateur, but when I look back at it, I can still feel the excitement and curiosity that it sparked within me while working on my first short film.
